Move for Round #1 United States
The US reiterates its long held commitment to achieving stability in the region and a sovereign, stable and self-reliant Iraq. We will continue to work in a multilateral fashion with our allies and partners in the region in order to demonstrate this commitment and to achieve our shared goals and benefits.
While recognizing that Iraq’s problems should ultimately be solved by the Iraqi people via a political process, we trust that people’s desire for political sovereignty must be reconciled with our overarching goal of stability and security in Iraq and the region.
We urge all parties to exercise the utmost restraint and will continue to study the issue in consultation with our allies.
