At this point, no country has claimed responsibility but it appears that the tanker has sustained significant damage. There are some reports that the tanker has sunk. The identity of the ship has not yet been verified. To complicate matters, 40% of the world's oil shipments travel through the Strait of Hormuz. Tensions in the Middle East have recently been exacerbated by the creation of an Independent Kurdistan.
