The US reiterates its long held commitment to achieving stability in the region and a sovereign, stable and self-reliant Iraq. The desire for political sovereignty on the part of various groups must be reconciled with our overarching goal of stability and security in Iraq and the region.
The US believes that calls for independence in various regions of what is internationally recognized as the sovereign Iraqi state are extremely premature and illegitimate.
The US has been actively facilitating talks between Iraq and the KRG. The US will also convening a summit to immediately mediate talks between Turkey and the KRG to discuss relevant issues.
In addition, the President has ordered a review of the present deployment of US force allocation in Iraq by Central Command.
